Research shows that diversity, when combined with inclusion, can strengthen democratic representation, drive resilience, and benefit economies. At the LABOR.A conference, WifOR Institute contributed to this conversation by showing how diversity shapes German workplaces and what tools can help support it.
- WifOR’s data indicates that less privileged groups continue to be disproportionately affected by discrimination within German organizations. Around 1 out of 10 women, non-binary individuals, and workers with migration background feel discriminated against based on their gender or ethnicity. Meanwhile, only 1% of cisgender men and non-migrants feel this way.
- Our trend analyses show that the pressure on people with diversity characteristics, such as non-Christians, continues to increase. When comparing the first survey with the second one, several indicators deteriorate significantly. For example, stereotyping by supervisors and colleagues has grown, and employees report higher levels of psychological strain.
- Companies should expand their solutions around diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our data demonstrates that tools such as contact points for addressing discrimination, networks for diverse groups, and training programs are perceived as the most helpful.
