Africa Health ExCon 2026 in Cairo (Egypt)

Dr. Malina Müller was part of the panel discussion “Unlocking Societal Value – From Evidence to Policy Action in Egypt,” where she presented on the value of innovative treatments for HER2+ metastatic breast cancer and diabetic macular edema (DME), a diabetes-related eye disease that can cause severe vision loss or blindness.

15. June 2026 – 18. June 2026

Key insights:

  • The societal impact of DME treatments alone is expected to reach approximately $437 million between 2025 and 2030 in Egypt, while HER2+ metastatic breast cancer treatments could generate around $18 million in societal value between 2026 and 2030.
  • Better health outcomes translate into broader economic and social benefits. For example, DME interventions could prevent severe vision loss or legal blindness in hundreds of thousands of patients while preserving millions of hours of informal caregiving, reducing the burden on families and society.
  • When we account for productivity, quality of life, caregiver burden, and long-term health system impacts, innovative medicines should be viewed as investments that contribute to healthier populations and stronger economies.
